Shortly before 11:15 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 6, a New Rochelle Police officer on patrol heard gunshots coming from the Heritage Home housing complex, prompting an investigation at the scene.
Police said that upon arrival at the housing complex, officers found people fleeing the area, but were unable to locate a shooter or victim at that time.
One shell casing was also recovered at the scene.
According to police, New Rochelle detectives and officers at the Real-Time Crime Center at Westchester County Police Headquarters launched an investigation, which led to multiple leads in the following days.
A suspect, Hartford County, Connecticut resident George Wesley Nelson, of New Britain, was identified, and he was arrested at approximately 3:45 on Saturday, Sept. 11 after admitting to his role in the shooting incident.
Nelson, age 38, was taken into custody without incident and charged with criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. No return court date has been announced by police.
